The type of food of a certain place has is related to the culture of that place.
Generally speaking, Indonesian foods are spicy, or in their language, pedas. I admit that I am not fond of eating spicy foods. But because of my one month stay in Jambi, I learned, not just to like, but to love spicy foods.
Here are some of the foods that I have tasted, and I have enjoyed.
From left to right, top to bottom:
1. Sate Kacang - Skewed Chicken Meat with Peanut Sauce. We ate this during our last visit to Sir Eddy Haryanto's House
2. Sate Kacang again, we ate this during our farewell ceremony in UNJA.
3. Variety of Indonesian foods. Nenek Ida cooked for us before we went back to our home countries. She cooked Nasi Kuning (Yellow Rice), Mie Goreng (fried noodles), Ayam (Chicken), and vegetables.
4. Nasi Goreng with Ayam - Fried Rice with chicken.
5. Sate Ayam (skewed chicken meat) and Mie Ayam (Chicken Noodles).
6. Variety of Indonesian Foods. Ma, one of the teachers in SMP 11, cooked a simple farewell lunch for us. She cooked Tempoyak (Fish with fermented durian sauce), Ayam Pedas (Spicy Chicken), and vegetables.
7. Mie Ayam bought outside SMPN 11.
8. Nasi Gemuk - Rice with chicken, noodles, and chips.
9. Variety of Indonesian Foods. When we were at Mrs. Yuni's home, the head of UNJA International Office, we ate fried catfish (wherein we were the ones who fished for those), chicken adobo (almost), and a variety of vegetables.
10. Nasi Goreng bough at the canteen of SMPN 11.
11. Variety of Indonesian Foods. Ma cooked food when we went to the tmeple, she cooked Tempoyak and Ayam pedas.
12. Es Tebu - Iced Sugar Cane Juice.
13. Nasi Gemuk bought at the canteen of SMPN 11
14. Nasi Padang - a variety of Indonesian foods. On my plate, I had chicken barbecue, and vegetables.

16. Martabak Telur - omelette with a hint of curry powder. An Indian influence to Indonesian cuisine.
17. Fried Tofu and Fried Banana, one of the favorite snacks in Indonesia.

20. Variety of Indonesian Snacks
21. Rich Fried Chicken ( Super Hemat 1) - our favorite fastfood in Jambi.
22. Nasi Bungkus - this was out go to lunch. It's a budget meal, where you have rice, meat and vegetables.
23. Chocolate Martabak
24. Nasi Bungkus
25 - 26. A traditional Nasi Padang Setup. They will serve all the foods they have, and you will choose what you want. You will pay only the foods that you will touch. Me, I chose the Beef Rendang.
27. Nasi Goren Tektek.
I cannot put all the foods that I ate because there are so many.
But my most favorite? it's this.
