Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 11

Junior High School Number 11

Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri 11 - Kota Jambi or SMPN 11 for short, is a public junior high school in the City of Jambi.
Unlike in the Philippines where the different schools were named in either the places where they are located or notable persons (heroes, presidents, legislators, founder, and others), schools in Indonesia are not named but rather, they are numbered. And the number of the school is not correlated to the standing or rank of the school.

The school has 17 non-teaching staff, including the administration. The academic support staff includes the Administration, the curriculum officers, the grade level heads, heads of the different facilities (science laboratory heads, computer laboratory heads, librarians, among others).

Teaching System

The schools has 69 teachers teaching different subjects. The teachers are assigned subjects to teach and are assigned to different classes. The teachers are also given different roles, aside from their teaching tasks, like for example, advisers of different student clubs and organization, coaches for different competitions, and others.

Materials and Learning Resource

The school has varied source of teaching and learning materials, and a learning resource center. There are 2 computer laboratories, with fully functional computers for the students to use. There is also a science laboratory, equipped with almost complete set of laboratory apparatus and other scientific equipment that could be used for physics, chemistry, and biology experiments and simulation. Aside from that science laboratory, there are 2 science laboratories that were still under construction. For references and other learning resource, there's a library filled with reference materials in all the subject areas.

The main material that the teachers use for teaching is the whiteboard. All rooms are equipped with a whiteboard. For mathematics and other classes that requires graphing, some rooms have graphing boards.

Measurement and Evaluation System

Teachers in the school still uses the traditional paper-and-pen assessment methods to assess if the learners really learned something throughout the duration of the class. Summative assessments are given to the learners every time they finish learning  a certain subject matter or topic. These summative assessments, in the form of quiz, will be the basis of evaluating whether the learner understood the topic or not

General Curriculum

SMPN 11 follows the K-13 Curriculum. This curriculum was established in 2013, by their minister of education. This curriculum allots 3 grade levels in the junior high school level (Grades 7, 8, and 9). According to one of the lecturers from UNJA, the educational curriculum in Indonesia changes every time there is a new education minister. This is also good, because this ensures that the curriculum will really be essential for the learners, because it is being updated time to time.

Science Teaching Plan

The teaching plan used by teachers in SMPN 11 is called the Rencana Implementasi Pembelajaran, which translates to Learning Implementation Plan. This learning implementation plan has 9 parts:

A. Core Competencies

B. Basic Competencies

C. Indicators

D. Learning Objectives

E. Learning Materials

F. Approach/ Strategy/ Method

G. Learning Activities

H. Learning Resources

I. Assessment of Learning Outcomes
